Teapot trickery -

this trick does take some preparation, but it is well worth it!
Effect: The magician gathers an audience, and explains that their teapot has
been acting strangely lately. They get a spectator to hold and shake the teapot to show that it is full of water. They then pour some water into a small clear container that they showed empty before, and the water is green. Next they say "but when i open the lid" ...(open lid)...it is full of ?!" and you pull out a long line of fabric. They then show that it is not at all wet. They then may pull out many other small objects. To finish, they say "and this is the weirdest part" and pour out some water that is now mysteriously turned clear again.
Preparation: This trick is pretty mainly all preparation, as well as some good acting and creativity. First, you will need a teapot that is tall, and can fit another container inside of it. You will also need some strong tape(preferably packing tape), a plastic cup or other container, some small objects and fabrics, 2 smaller clear containers, food coloring (green), and a table cloth the same colour (and roughly the same shade) as your food coloring.
Making the Gimmick: First, take your plastic container and fill it with your fabrics and small objects (eg. jewelry, sweets, confetti). Then, place some tape loops on the bottom of the cup. Put the cup into your teapot. If you aren't going to use your teapot anymore, you can use super glue. Then, take your 2 plastic containers, and put a drop of food coloring in one,and leave the other empty. Just before performing your trick, fill the pot with a bit of water(maybe a quarter or so full)through the spout. Place your containers on your table cloth along with your teapot. you want to try to perform your trick right after putting the water in the pot so that the tape wont unstick. The audience wont see any food coloring in the cup because it should pretty much blend in with the table cloth.
Method: You probably already know the method by know, but if you dint, i will explain. First say your patter about your teapot, then let a spectator pick up the pot so that they can feel there is water inside of it. Then pour some water into the container with the food coloring. Do this one first so they wont have much time to notice there is food coloring in it. Then take your fabrics out. Then pour your clear water out. Then take more new objects out. You can change this trick around a bit to make it more your style and exciting.
TIPS: use fabrics that can be squished very small (like silk) so that you can fit more in the container. This trick is best done around the beginning of a performance so that people won't want to examine the pot right away, and you will have time to remove the hidden container or switch the teapot.
neat?
